Start-up and Shut Down Procedures: Wheel-Tractor Scraper

Before Starting The Machine

  • Perform walk around inspection
  • Mount the machine using 3 points of contact
  • Engage the parking brake.
  • Make sure the oscillating and steering lock is removed.
  • Adjust seat, steering column, and mirrors.
  • Inspect and fasten seat belt
  • Make sure the bowl is lowered.
  • Move all hydraulic controls to the HOLD position
  • Move the transmission direction and speed control to the NEUTRAL position
  • Perform the first part of the EMS Functional Test
  • Make sure all personnel are clear of the machine

Starting The Tractor Engine

  • Partially depress the tractor governor control pedal and hold it.
  • Turn the tractor engine start switch key until the engine starts and release the key.
  • Perform the second part of the EMS Functional Test. (if equipped)
  • Release the governor control pedal.

Starting The Scraper Engine (If Equipped)

  • Dismount the machine using 3-point contact
  • Perform the first part of the EMS Functional Test
  • Move the scraper governor control lever to FUEL-ON
  • Turn the scraper engine start switch key until the engine starts and release the key
  • Perform the second part of the EMS Functional Test
  • Return to the scraper cab
  • Fasten seat belt

Machine Warm-Up

  • Operate the engine at LOW IDLE for 5 minutes to warm-up the machine
  • Engage and disengage attachment controls to help warm-up the hydraulic components
  • Cycle all controls to allow warm oil to circulate through all hydraulic cylinders and lines
  • Check gauges and action lights frequently
  • Check brakes before moving

Moving The Machine

  • Make sure all personnel are clear of the machine.
  • Check for adequate clearance around the machine.
  • Raise the bowl.
  • Depress and hold the service brake pedal
  • Release the parking and secondary brakes.
  • Disengage the transmission neutral lock control
  • Move the transmission control to the desired direction and appropriate gear speed
  • Release the service brake pedal
  • Depress the governor control pedal(s) until you achieve the desired engine speed
  • Check gauges and action lights frequently

Machine Shut Down

  • Park the machine on a smooth, level area
  • Move the transmission control lever to the NEUTRAL position
  • Engage the transmission neutral lock control
  • Set the parking brake.
  • Lower the bowl.

Tractor Engine Shutdown And Scraper Engine Shutdown

  • Run the tractor engine at LOW IDLE for 5 minutes.
  • Turn the tractor engine start switch to OFF and remove the key
  • Dismount the machine using 3-point contact

Walk-Around Inspection

  • Conduct post-operation walkaround inspection
